Knitting Pattern in English for a Fitted Sleeveless Dress with a Deep Round Neckline and Narrow Straps at the Front and Back Part, Featuring an Eye-Catching Interplay of Vertical Stripes on the Skirt and Horizontal Stripes on the Bodice, Available in Sizes (XXS) XS | S | M (L | XL | 2XL) 3XL | 4XL | 5XL
Structure:
The dress is worked in one piece in garter stitch. The skirt section is worked first, vertically, with the stripe widths shaped using German Short Rows. To do this, the total number of stitches required for the skirt length is cast on, and the skirt is worked in a striped pattern using two contrasting colours and German Short Rows all the way around the waist. This shaping creates fewer rows at the waist and significantly more rows at the hem (approximately ankle length), ensuring maximum comfort and ease of movement when walking. Once the skirt is complete, the cast-on and bind-off edges are joined using the mattress stitch. If desired, several centimeters can be left unseamed to create a side slit in the dress. In the second step, stitches are picked up along the narrower edge of the skirt (the waist side), and the bodice is worked directly onto the skirt, also in garter stitch, but now in the round. The stripe pattern from the narrowest part of the skirt is continued throughout the entire Bodice, creating an interesting contrast to the skirt. As the bodice is worked, increases are made at the sides to accommodate the fuller bust circumference. Once the maximum stitch count has been reached, stitches are bound off at the back, and the deep scoop neckline is shaped with decreases. The front and back are then separated below the armholes and completed individually. The front neckline is also shaped with decreases, although it sits higher than the back neckline. The straps are narrow and are worked in the same stripe pattern. Finally, all edges are finished with an I-cord edging: the skirt hem, the armholes, and the necklines at both the front and back.
